SPECIAL CATEGORY FOR FAMILY MEMBERS OF STUDENTS OR SCIENTISTS THAT DO NOT NEED A RESTRICTED RESIDENCE PERMIT

The educational institutions which are listed by the Ministry of Migration can send the request for the special category for students or scientists, who do not need a restricted residence permit for the entry, directly to the foreigner authority. The educational institution must submit the following documents:

1. Request to the general manager, signed by the legal representative of the educational institution or by a deputy. The request should contain the following documents:

a. Background of the request, in which the request for a provisional visa and the activities, which the foreigner will perform in the country, are described and justified.

b. Data of the foreigner who places the request:

" Complete name
" Nationality
" Occupation
" Date of birth
" Prospective place of residence and entry date
" Kind, validity period and number of the passport
" Prospective duration of the stay in Costa Rica
" Place within the legal district of San
José or an electronic medium determined by the Ministry, which is specified in the Official Journal, in order to receive notifications.

c. A Costa Rican consul from the consulate, to which the entry permit of the student or scientist, which is invited to perform important activities for the country, is to be sent, should stamp the visa in the passport.

2. Copy of the passport

3. Birth certificate of the foreigner who would like to enter the country, in which the names of the parents are specified. The document must be duly certified.

4. Certificate of good conduct from which it follows that the applicant did not commit any crime, neither in the homeland nor in the country in which he lived during the last three years. The document must be duly certified.

5. Birth certificates, certificates of good conduct, copies of the passports or any further documents, which must be attached to the request for entry and/or stay, shall not date back more than three months before the submission to the foreigner authority. If it concerns birth certificates, that are issued by the relevant country only once, these can be submitted likewise in form of a
certified copy.

6. If birth certificates, certificates of good conduct, copies of the passports or any further documents, which are attached to the request for entry and/or stay, are not written in Spanish, an official translation must be attached.

7. Proof of fingerprints of the Ministry for Public Security, except for children under the age of 12.

8. Two current passport photos

9. If it concerns the marriage partner, duly authenticated original of the marriage certificate
